Kakariki Hospital

Kākāriki Hospital will be a 20-bed private hospital delivering elective surgery in a state-of-the-art facility in Auckland. It will feature four large, digital operating theatres, a floor of consulting suites, and a full commercial kitchen. Surgical specialties will include pediatrics, ENT, orthopedics, spine and neurosurgery, plastics, general, breast, and urology.  

RCP was engaged to manage the project from design to delivery. An important role has been to keep the project moving forward, despite the series of challenges it has faced. With every new hurdle that has presented itself, RCP has presented the options and guided the team through the decision-making process.  

The shell of a former office building is being converted into a new hospital, which makes for a challenging adaptive-reuse project. For example, there is limited floor-to-ceiling space available to accommodate all the services that are required for a hospital. It has required some out-of-the-box solutions. 

Our public health system, which is struggling with demand, will also benefit from the new facility. Public hospitals typically outsource to private providers to meet the shortfall. Having additional facilities means that the general public can also receive better treatment.  

The hospital is due open in late 2024.
