Queenstown’s Lakeview Te Taumata is set to become a dynamic extension to the current town centre. The complementary development will offer residential buildings, hotels, co-working and co-living spaces, hospitality and retail, and a hot pools attraction. Construction will be divided into multiple stages and take more than 10 years to complete.

The Queenstown Lakes District Council sought to join forces with the private sector to deliver the development. RCP led the Request for Development proposal process to select a fitting development partner that would acquire the land and whose approach aligned with the Council’s vision for the site. RCP also guided the Council through the sales process to the developer.

RCP has gone on to manage site delivery works, from acquisition of the existing properties, demolition works and asbestos removal to procuring the roading and three waters infrastructure.

Despite encountering uncertainties like site contamination, RCP is skillfully handling the project's staged delivery. The approach involves multiple work fronts so a robust programme strategy is pivotal to achieving the desired outcomes within the allowed time.

RCP is effectively managing the scope of works with the developer. It diligently oversaw the Council’s input into the design development process, ensuring that the design remained aligned with the wider town centre’s objectives.

The project, which embraces best-practice urban design principles, has activated the valuable yet underutilised land. The walkable, liveable and authentic development will deliver a significant volume of much-needed housing and supporting amenities for the district. An important piece of RCP’s role was working with the Council to ensure any displaced people were supported into other spaces.

The physical work for the thriving mixed-use development will be complete in 2024.
